During this course you will have the opportunity to create a ceramic lamp base of your choice using the coiling technique. We will also explore modelling techniques such as pinching and slabs to create a candleholder. I have chosen this project because during this time of uncertainty the idea of a lamp or light holder takes on a greater meaning. In many cultures a lamp symbolises truth, knowledge and understanding. Lighting means dispelling away darkness, driving away sadness and ignorance and welcoming in happiness and knowledge. With these thoughts in mind your lamp base and candleholder can be inspired by whatever you choose, for example, nature, a particular art movement, a culture, etc. You will also learn how to use slip and sgraffito techniques to decorate your lamp.
